Bera: A woman who was reported to have been swept by the current after the car she was in slid into Sungai Triang, near Bandar Baru Bera, was found drowned this morning. Bera District Police Chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir confirmed that the body of Sakirah Akop, 31, was discovered floating approximately 2.5 kilometers from the location where the car slipped into the river last Monday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the police received information about the discovery of the body at 8.12 am from passers-by who were jogging in the vicinity. The body was subsequently transported to the Bera Hospital Forensic Unit for further examination.
The incident occurred around 1.30 pm last Monday when Sakirah accompanied her husband on a fishing trip. She remained in the car with her one-year and four-month-old daughter while her husband was fishing about eight meters away. Tragedy struck when the vehicle unexpectedly slid and plunged into the river.
It was reported that Sakirah's husband managed to rescue their child from the car, but Sakirah was believed to have been swept away by the strong current as she attempted to save herself.
