Selangor: The Works Ministry (KKR) is set to upgrade 121 overcrowded schools through a project aimed at addressing the issue of overcrowding, with an allocated budget of RM88 million. The initiative involves the enhancement of 127 classrooms across six states.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced that 127 letters of acceptance (SST) have been distributed to the successful contractors. The project will be implemented in Selangor, Langkawi, Perak, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, and Penang. Selangor will see the highest number of projects with 111 works, followed by seven in Perak, four in Pahang, three in Negeri Sembilan, and one each in Terengganu and Penang.
The project includes the construction of 117 premier classrooms and 10 classrooms for the Integrated Special Education Program (PPKI) using the industrialised building system (IBS) concept. Ahmad highlighted that the IBS concept facilitates a quicker construction process while ensuring better construction quality. All projects are scheduled for completion by October this year.
This initiative is part of the MADANI Government's commitment to prioritize projects that enhance the quality of learning and create a supportive educational environment. The Ministry of Education (KPM) aims to transition to a single-session school system by 2030 and to provide modern, comfortable facilities for students, teachers, and school staff.
Ahmad also noted that 127 contractors were selected through an open tender process conducted from April 24 to May 16. Additionally, 14 district engineers from the Public Works Department will oversee the construction work to ensure project standards are met.
