Yayasan Petronas contributes devices, internet data to 400 students in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU, March 29 (Bernama) — Yayasan Petronas today presented donations in the form of devices and internet data to facilitate learning for 400 students from B40 households in Kelantan.

Petronas East Coast senior manager, Azeman Said said the contribution was in conjunction with the Sentuhan Ilmu Bridging the Online Learning Divide (BOLD) programme organised in collaboration with the Kelantan Education Department.

He said the programme was aimed at helping to overcome the dropout problem at 10 schools in Tumpat, Kota Bharu and Pasir Mas districts following the implementation of distance learning.

“Through the programme, each child gets to receive a tablet, a keyboard, internet data and education plan for 12 months.

“In addition, they will receive the guidance of a volunteer tutor on a regular basis. Some 1,400 tutor volunteers, including 800 Petronas staff, will provide online teaching services via the WhatsApp application,” he said in a statement, here today.

Azeman said Petronas would remain committed to supporting the government’s efforts in providing quality education, especially to students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The uncertainty of school sessions nationwide since last year had resulted in students dropping out from school, especially among those who have just started school.

“As such, Petronas hopes to solve the problem of student dropout as well as improve English proficiency among Year One to Year Three pupils,” said Azeman adding that the BOLD programme also emphasises on parental control to protect children online.
