Johor bahru: YTL Power International Bhd and JLand Group have announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop a gigawatt-scale data centre campus at Sedenak Tech Park West (STeP) in Johor. The collaboration will involve JLand Group, through its subsidiary JLG Technopark Sdn Bhd, and YTL Power International, through its subsidiary SIPP Power Sdn Bhd.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, SIPP Power will initially acquire approximately 58.6 hectares within STeP, with an option to expand up to a further 162 hectares. This potential expansion could increase the campus footprint to around 220 hectares. The new campus, located within Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC), aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure cluster in the area and enhance Johor's status as a leading data centre market in Southeast Asia.
The Sedenak campus will be a complement to YTL's Green Data Centre Park in Kulai, with a planned capacity of up to 1.2 gigawatts. The combined capacity of the two campuses will allow YTL Power to address the growing regional demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital services that require significant power.
JLand Group managing director Datuk Sr Akmal Ahmad expressed anticipation for YTL Power's contributions, emphasizing the collaboration's goal of attracting complementary investments and creating new opportunities. This partnership is expected to bolster Johor's position in the regional digital economy.
YTL Power International managing director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong highlighted that the Sedenak development, in conjunction with the expanding Kulai campus, will reinforce Johor's status as a regional hub for AI, cloud computing, and digital innovation. The development is anticipated to support skilled employment in construction, engineering, technology, and data centre operations, while also generating economic activity across energy, infrastructure, and technology supply chains.
