Kuala lumpur: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation by independent preacher Zamri Vinoth regarding a charge of making a statement likely to cause public alarm in connection with a gathering held in front of a shopping complex in the capital. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Mohamad Poad informed Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan of the decision during proceedings today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the representation was submitted in an effort to review the charge against Zamri, which includes the possibility of reducing the charge or achieving a similar outcome. Lawyer Nur Shafiqah Shafiyah Omar, representing Zamri, requested the court to set dates for the trial following the rejection of the representation.

Nur Farhana stated that the prosecution plans to call six to seven witnesses to testify. Consequently, the court has set the trial dates for April 21 and 22 next year.

Zamri Vinoth, whose real name is Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu, 42, was charged on March 17 with making a statement likely to cause public alarm and incite any person to commit an offence against public order through his Facebook account, "Zamri Vinoth", at 12.22 pm on February 3. The statement was seen and heard by a 45-year-old man at Restoran Nasi Kandar Kudu on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The charge falls under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code (Act 574), which stipulates imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both upon conviction. Speaking to reporters outside the court, Nur Shafiqah expressed that the representation aimed to seek a review of the charge against Zamri.
