Zara Qairina’s Case: Fahmi Calls On The Public To Respect Police Investigation

Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged the public to respect the police investigation into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stated that the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) had issued a warning regarding the case. This comes in response to the widespread circulation of unverified content about the case on social media.

Fahmi emphasized the importance of not spreading unverified information. He noted that social media content can often be unconfirmed, fabricated, AI-generated, or misleading. He stressed the need to rely on authorities and the AGC to handle the investigation, ensuring that trust is placed in them to execute their duties fairly.

He made these remarks to reporters after launching the PENTARAMA Homecoming and PENTARAMA X Kelab Malaysiaku programme in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations at SK Bangsar.

Fahmi also highlighted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's assurance that anyone involved in the case will face justice and that no individual will be exempt from legal proceedings.

Zara Qairina, 13, passed away at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. She was taken to the hospital after being discovered unconscious with critical injuries in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar at 4 am the previous day. Her burial took place that night without a post-mortem.

Last Tuesday, the AGC returned the preliminary investigation report to the police for further investigation and completion.
