BUKIT GANTANG: In a notable community initiative, 10 tonnes of fresh fish are being distributed to 10,000 residents across 31 locations in Bukit Gantang, as part of a New Year's effort to alleviate living expenses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal announced the fish distribution program, which is taking place across Changkat Jering, Kuala Sepetang, and Trong state constituencies. The aim is to support low-income families, particularly those from the B40 group, including asnaf and single mothers, by providing them with fresh fish sourced from various regions.
The distribution began with 7.5 tonnes of ikan lolong and pelaling at 25 locations in Changkat Jering and Kuala Sepetang, with the remaining 2.5 tonnes scheduled for delivery in Trong the following day. Syed Abu Hussin emphasized the program's objective to ease the financial burden on his constituents and expressed a desire to expand the initiative nationwide with support from larger organizations.
Community members have reacted positively to the program. Siti Aishah Juraimi, a local resident, remarked on the importance of such contributions to her household, while Mohd Alif Azizi, another resident, highlighted the significance of receiving fresh fish for free amid rising living costs. Both praised Syed Abu Hussin's commitment to assisting the community through innovative support programs.
