Floods Predicted in Nine Kelantan Districts as River Basins Threaten to Overflow

KOTA BHARU: The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has issued a forecast predicting potential flooding in the river basins of nine districts in Kelantan, anticipated to occur from Saturday to the following Monday. The affected districts include Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai, and Jeli.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, DID's statement highlights that in Tumpat, floods are expected in the river basins of Sungai Golok, Sungai Kelantan, and Sungai Pengkalan Nangka. In Pasir Mas, the potential flooding is forecasted for the Sungai Golok and Sungai Kelantan river basins.

Further details from the statement indicate that Kota Bharu could see flooding in the Sungai Kelantan, Sungai Pengkalan Datu, and Sungai Semerak river basins. In Pasir Puteh, the anticipated areas of impact are the Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Semerak river basins.

The statement also warns that the Bachok district might experience floods in the Sungai Kemasin and Sungai Semerak river basins, while Tanah Merah could face flooding in the Sungai Golok and Sungai Kelantan river basins. In Kuala Krai, the Sungai Kelantan river basin is expected to be affected, and in Jeli, both the Sungai Golok and Sungai Kelantan river basins are at risk.

DID has committed to ongoing monitoring and updating of flood warnings should significant rainfall persist in these regions. The department underscored the possibility of the forecasted floods occurring earlier or later than expected.
