117 Quran-Memorising Students At Imtiaz Besut Excel In SPM

Besut: A cohort of 117 students from Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu (YT) Besut has achieved outstanding results in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations. 105 scored high marks and also memorised the entire Quran.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, school principal Termezi Jusoh revealed that 68 of these students scored between 10 and 12 As, including 37 who achieved 12 As, with two students earning a perfect 12A+. 'These students excel not only in religious and scientific subjects, but all of them also carry 30 chapters of the Quran in their hearts,' he told reporters at the school's Appreciation and Thanksgiving Ceremony for the SPM 2024 cohort today.

The event was officiated by Imtiaz YT's assistant director Faizah Nasriah Osman. Termezi highlighted that the school's academic performance has earned it third place nationally among Government-Assisted Religious Schools (SABK).

Imtiaz YT Besut also celebrated an international accolade after a team of students and teachers won gold at the 2025 International Creativity and Innovation Awards (ICIA), held at the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from April 24 to 28.

The award-winning team comprised three students, namely Ahmad Wajdan Mohd Shafiee, Muhammad Hafizin Fahmi Mohd Hamdan, and Nik Aqil Syauqi Nik Abdul Halim, along with their teacher mentors Muhammad Badruzzaman Hassan and Syahida Kamal Mat Nawi. The winning project, i-Tasheel Arabic Innovation (i-TAR), uses interactive methods to teach students how to analyse Quranic grammar, identify syntactic markers (i'rab), and determine word endings.

Termezi stated that the achievement reflects the school's commitment to producing well-rounded students who are both academically and creatively competitive.
