Kuala lumpur: The upcoming Dewan Rakyat session, set to commence next Monday and continue until August 28, is anticipated to extend into the night, primarily focusing on the tabling and debate of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul revealed that his office has received numerous motions from Members of Parliament (MPs), indicating a busy and intense session ahead.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johari emphasized the importance of public engagement during the session. He encouraged citizens to communicate their concerns to their MPs while Parliament is in session. "Tag their MPs on social media so that their voices can be heard. Don't wait until the MPs return to their constituencies to complain. Raise the issue while Parliament is in session," Johari stated after inaugurating the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) at Taman Pekan Baru.
Johari further mentioned that the sitting might be extended into the night to manage the packed agenda, beginning daily at 10 am and possibly continuing until 10 pm or 11 pm. The tabling of the 13MP is particularly noteworthy this year, as Malaysia holds the ASEAN Chairmanship, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the country's resilience and progress amidst global uncertainties.
In addition to parliamentary activities, Johari urged the public to make full use of the services provided at NADI centres to enhance their livelihoods and economic prospects. "NADI isn't just about digital access or community programmes. It can be a one-stop centre for people to obtain vital information and explore business opportunities," he explained. He encouraged the youth, in particular, to leverage these centres for educational and community engagement purposes.
NADI Taman Pekan Baru, operational since February 9, is among four new centres established in Kedah under the '1 DUN 1 NADI' initiative, increasing the total number of NADI centres in the state to 81.
