Kuala lumpur: The 2026 Budget, presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, signifies the government's dedication to enhancing the welfare of the people and promoting sustainable growth in the national economy, according to Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fuziah emphasized that the budget aligns with the MADANI Government's strategy to ensure inclusive economic development, reinforce the domestic supply chain, and shield low and middle-income groups from rising living costs. Fuziah expressed confidence in the budget's potential to catalyze sustainable and equitable growth and to bolster Malaysia's status as a resilient, people-focused trading nation.
She highlighted the planned amendment to the Consumer Protection Act 1999, which will incorporate the Lemon Law, as a testament to the government's commitment to consumer rights and the accountability of producers and distributors in product quality. Furthermore, the budget includes a RM20 million allocation for the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign and the Made in Malaysia logo initiative, aimed at strengthening the national identity of local products in the global market and boosting domestic economic growth and employment.
Fuziah also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for a RM1 billion allocation to combat the cost of living, which includes RM600 million for the Payung Rahmah Programme. This increase reflects the MADANI Government's ongoing commitment to preventing any group from being marginalized in efforts to manage living costs.
Fuziah noted that KPDN will play a crucial role in the 2026 Budget's agenda, particularly in targeted subsidies designed to save RM5 billion on diesel and RM2.5 billion on RON95, thereby reducing leakage, increasing market efficiency, and enhancing competitiveness in the long term. Moreover, KPDN plans to collaborate with government agencies, industry players, and consumer organizations to ensure effective implementation of budget initiatives for the benefit of the population.
