23 Held In Immigration Raid On Puchong Entertainment Outlet

Puchong: The Immigration Department (JIM) of Selangor detained 23 undocumented migrants under Ops Selera and Ops Gegar at an entertainment outlet in Puchong yesterday. Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said those detained comprised a woman each from Thailand, Vietnam, and Morocco, who worked as a waitress, as well as 16 male workers from Myanmar and four from Bangladesh.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, all those detained are aged between 22 and 44 and have worked at the outlet for over six months. During the raid, some individuals attempted to avoid detection by hiding in cupboards or pretending to be customers, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin further added that the individuals are believed to have entered Malaysia through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Bukit Kayu Hitam, facilitated by agents. The operation involved 18 Selangor Immigration officers who inspected 37 individuals at 6 pm, and a Summons to Witness was issued to a Malaysian during the operations.

The detained individuals have been transported to the Semenyih Immigration Depot. The case is under investigation under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
