3,367 Foreign Nationals Held, Investigated By Selangor Immigration From January To July

Kuala lumpur: The Selangor Immigration Department has detained and investigated 3,367 foreigners through a series of operations from the beginning of this year until July.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Immigration Department Director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin stated that of the total, 1,030 individuals were repatriated to their countries of origin, while 888 faced court charges. Additionally, 315 foreign nationals were issued compounds for various offences.

Khairrul Aminus also revealed that during the same period, 1,134 foreign nationals were released after thorough investigations confirmed their possession of valid passports and work permits. He provided an arrest breakdown by district, highlighting that Petaling recorded the highest arrests with 2,208 individuals, followed by 625 in Klang. These arrests were made through 283 and 66 operations respectively.

The director mentioned that at the Semenyih Immigration Depot, Myanmar nationals constitute the highest number of detainees with 655 individuals, followed by Indonesians (123), Bangladeshis (98), Indians (35), Pakistanis (20), and others (46).

From a prosecutorial perspective, Khairrul Aminus noted that 893 cases had been tried, with the most common offence being overstaying, accounting for 422 cases. This was followed by entering and staying in the country without a valid passport or permit, which accounted for 384 cases. These offences were charged under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act.

The director urged the public, especially Selangor residents, to share any relevant information with the Selangor Immigration Department to aid in controlling the number of foreign nationals in the state.
