Kuala lumpur: The Immigration Department has conducted a total of 7,105 operations across the nation, resulting in 96,994 inspections and the detention of 41,596 illegal immigrants as of July 15, according to the department's director-general, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, enforcement measures under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, along with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, Anti-Restricted Activity Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, will be further reinforced to ensure adherence to the Immigration Act 1959/63. Datuk Zakaria emphasized the department's commitment to using all legal powers to address illegal activities and offences, stating, "We will continue to take firm action without any compromise."

During an integrated enforcement operation at the Kapar Bestari Industrial Park, Datuk Zakaria reported the detention of 58 foreign nationals, aged between 20 and 45, following raids on two electronic waste processing factories. The operation, which began at approximately 11 am, included 77 officers from the Immigration Department, the Labour Department, and the Department of Environment.

Datuk Zakaria noted that the detained individuals were unable to provide valid identification documents, suggesting that their documents might be held by their employer. The department plans to liaise with employers to confirm the immigration status of the detainees. He also highlighted the use of closed-circuit television cameras at the premises, which enabled individuals to monitor enforcement officers and potentially evade capture, a tactic commonly encountered during such operations.
