Melaka: Five hundred volunteers are expected to be involved in cooking 50 huge woks of dodol at the 'Mega Kacau Dodol Raya 2026' event, set to take place in front of the Independence Declaration Memorial in Banda Hilir on March 14.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman announced that the community event will involve Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), the Tourism Promotion Division, the Melaka Museum Corporation, Menara Taming Sari, and seven local non-governmental organisations, including trishaw and hotel associations.
"The dodol-stirring event aims not just to brighten Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, but also to invite visitors and tourists to join in," said Abdul Razak. He highlighted that the number of woks has increased to 50 from 30 last year due to the strong response, allowing more people to participate in the event. The traditional sweet treat will be distributed to visitors and tourists, promoting it to international guests and young people.
The event is part of Visit Melaka 2.0, showcasing the nation's cultural diversity through festival celebrations. Abdul Razak also mentioned that the event will feature the state's annual breaking of fast programme organized by MBMB and the Tourism Promotion Division, serving free food and drinks to around 2,000 visitors and tourists.
"This programme celebrates Muslims observing the fast while also including non-Muslims, helping to strengthen bonds between the communities," he added.
