Kuala lumpur: A total of 61 school projects across the nation are anticipated to be completed and handed over to the Ministry of Education (MOE) next year, as announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. These projects primarily involve the construction of new complexes and additional blocks to address the issue of student density.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta emphasized that the 61 projects set for completion next year include a mix of new school complexes and additional blocks. He shared these details following the officiation of the handover of the Precinct 15 School Complex. This initiative is part of a broader effort outlined under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), which encompasses a total of 1,251 school projects valued at RM32.63 billion. To date, 309 projects have been completed, while 454 are under construction.
Further details reveal that 321 projects remain in the planning stage, 79 are in the procurement process, 82 are in the design stage, and six are undergoing the re-tendering process. Nanta highlighted the Precinct 15 School Complex project, which was completed at a cost of RM117 million, finishing 45 days ahead of schedule due to the industrialised building system (IBS).
Government policy mandates a 70 per cent IBS usage in projects, a standard strictly adhered to by the Public Works Department, except in very remote areas, Nanta added.
Meanwhile, MOE secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim stated that the Putrajaya Precinct 15 School Complex will feature 36 primary school classrooms, 42 secondary school classrooms, and preschool facilities. Preparations are underway to mobilize teachers to welcome the first batch of students in January next year.
