Kuala lumpur: A recent report by the Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) has unveiled a significant gap in awareness among Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students regarding the extent of qualifications the program offers. The survey revealed that a staggering 87.7% of students were unaware that TVET provides qualifications up to degree level.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the FINCO report highlighted that this misconception is part of a larger issue where 96% of respondents did not recognize the full spectrum of qualifications available through TVET. The majority of those surveyed assumed that TVET was limited to Certificate or Diploma level qualifications.
Furthermore, the report suggests that this lack of awareness may stem from the perception of certain subjects. Although TVET encompasses fields like accounting, journalism, and nursing, these are often not associated with vocational training due to their perceived status as more prestigious professions compared to those traditionally seen as manual labor.
The findings of this survey underscore the need for increased awareness and dissemination of information about TVET programs and their offerings, to better inform current and prospective students about the opportunities available within the vocational education sector.
