Shah Alam: Abdul Raof Mokhtar has been appointed as the Acting Kota Raja UMNO Division Chief, as announced by the Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin. Abdul Raof, who has been serving as the deputy chief of the division, will hold this position until the next party election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this appointment follows the resignation of the former Kota Raja UMNO division chief, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Tengku Zafrul announced his intention to join the People's Justice Party (PKR) on May 30. Following his resignation, the deputy chief automatically assumes the role of division chief, with an official letter to be sent to the UMNO president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for it to be presented at the Supreme Council meeting.
Datuk Megat Zulkarnain shared this information during a press conference following the opening of the Wanita, Youth, and Puteri Selangor UMNO 2025 Delegation meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam. The event was attended by 1,248 delegates from the state party's wings.
Furthermore, Megat Zulkarnain stated that his relationship with Tengku Zafrul remains unchanged and urged Selangor UMNO to continue its work and progress. On May 30, Tengku Zafrul, who serves as the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, announced his resignation from UMNO through a Facebook statement. He confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the UMNO leadership, stepping down from his roles as a Supreme Council member, Kota Raja UMNO Division Chief, and UMNO member.
