Kuala lumpur: The establishment of the Sarawak state government-owned airline, AirBorneo, is set to address the long-standing issue of high flight ticket costs that have been a source of complaints among the people in Sarawak. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof expressed his clear aspiration to provide more affordable, transparent, and passenger-friendly air services while maintaining service quality.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasized that AirBorneo represents a strategic investment aimed at bolstering the state's economic future. Enhancing air connectivity through the airline is expected to open up more opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, and regional development sectors.

The inaugural flight of AirBorneo Airways, departing from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, was launched today, adding significance as it precedes the Sarawak Day celebration on July 22. This event marks another historic milestone in the state's developmental journey, highlighting AirBorneo's role as not just an airline but as a symbol of Sarawak's capability to shape its future, drive economic growth, and support strategic industries.

Fadillah emphasized that AirBorneo reflects Sarawak's aspiration to exert greater control over its air transport network, particularly to ensure that air service access in rural areas is sustained for the benefit of the people. He expressed hope for AirBorneo to grow as a source of pride for Sarawak and act as a catalyst for the state's progress and prosperity for future generations.

Earlier today, Fadillah welcomed the arrival of flight MY5005 at KLIA, Sepang, which carried Abang Johari along with Sarawak state ministers and distinguished guests, marking the official commencement of AirBorneo's operations.
