Kuantan: Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah officiated the launch of the IIUM Sports Medicine Clinic (ISMEC) at Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre @ International Islamic University Malaysia (SASMEC @IIUM) here today. Tunku Azizah, who is also the Constitutional Head of International Islamic University Malaysia, noted the importance of this milestone in advancing specialized healthcare.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the launch of ISMEC represents SASMEC @IIUM's dedication to providing comprehensive sports medicine services, encompassing prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. The aim is to foster healthier and more active communities, as emphasized by Tunku Azizah during her speech.
The event was part of the 10th anniversary celebration of SASMEC @IIUM. During the ceremony, the Reproductive Unit was renamed as the Tunku Azizah Advanced Reproductive Unit SASMEC @IIUM (TiARA), a tribute that Tunku Azizah found both honoring and humbling. She remarked on the shared commitment to advancing reproductive healthcare, offering hope to those on their path to parenthood.
Her Royal Highness also acknowledged the government's and the Higher Education Ministry's support for SASMEC @IIUM, particularly highlighting the recent approval of the Psychiatry Ward under Malaysia's 13th Plan. Tunku Azizah expressed satisfaction with the ministry's positive response to her proposal to expand the hospital's capacity from 300 to 600 beds.
Tunku Azizah expressed hope that the expansion plan would soon be realized, enhancing SASMEC @IIUM's ability to meet the increasing demand for specialized healthcare services, and ultimately benefiting the communities in Pahang, Malaysia, and beyond.
