Police have extended until Wednesday the remand of a suspect who allegedly stabbed a woman inside a car in Jalan Titi Gajah here. Kota Setar police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali said the extension was granted following the expiry today of the initial seven-day remand period, which began on May 18.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim is reported to be in stable condition and has regained consciousness but remains hospitalised. The 35-year-old victim suffered serious neck injuries after she was allegedly stabbed by a 32-year-old male acquaintance outside a restaurant at 9.19 pm on May 17.

In a separate case, Syed Basri stated that the suspect who tried to abduct a Form Two schoolgirl in Pekan Simpang Kuala on May 13 has yet to be arrested. In the 8.26 pm incident, the student escaped from a motorcyclist who attempted to kidnap her in an alley near a tuition centre.
