A magnitude 5.0 moderate earthquake was recorded in Mindanao, the Philippines, at 9.19 pm tonight, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia stated that the earthquake was centred at coordinates 9.2 degrees north and 126.7 degrees east, approximately 57km north-east of Gingoog City in the Philippines. The earthquake struck at a depth of 78 kilometres.

Initial assessments have indicated that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of the surrounding regions.
