Kuala lumpur: Malaysia must look boldly to the future by developing a long-term vision as the country approaches its 100th year, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said. He emphasized the need for a vision that transcends a single government term, an economic cycle, or a generation of leaders to ensure Malaysia evolves into a united, high-income, sovereign, and just nation by then.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin proposed a planning framework called 'Gagasan 100 Tahun Malaysia', which focuses on five key areas, the first being the development of a confident and compassionate nation. He underscored that national confidence stems from an honest understanding of history and cultural diversity, rather than superiority claims. This was articulated in his speech at the 'Bicara Perdana Dato' Menteri Besar Selangor' program during Malaysia Day 2026 at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic (PSA).

The second focus area highlighted by Amirudin is the economy amid climate change, traditionally linked to growth, employment, trade, and investment. He argued that environmental issues such as floods, extreme heat, and food production instability can no longer be sidelined and require integrated urban planning, effective drainage systems, and environmental conservation.

Amirudin also identified the necessity to address Malaysia's global and Asian positioning, the nation's democratic framework, and the hurdles faced by the younger generation in the era of artificial intelligence. He remarked on the ongoing geopolitical shifts and the increasing economic prominence of Asia, urging preparation for these changes.

Additionally, Amirudin revealed that the state government has implemented a flood dashboard to closely monitor flood situations and mitigation projects. This system aids in tracking project statuses, especially distinguishing between completed state or local authority projects and pending federal ones. The state government is committed to fast-tracking flood mitigation efforts, particularly during the dry season, deemed optimal for construction and upgrades.
