Anwar Approves RM10 Million Immediate Aid for Sabah Flood Victims

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to assist flood victims in Sabah. He stated that this allocation is in addition to the RM11 million already provided through the state government for urgent repairs of basic facilities in the affected areas.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed deep sorrow over the impact of the floods in Sabah and has instructed the entire MADANI Government machinery to be mobilised without delay to ensure that assistance reaches the people efficiently. His primary concern is the safety, welfare, and livelihood of the flood victims. In a statement on Facebook, he called for unity and compassion in helping those affected by the disaster, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and shared responsibility.

As of 8 am today, 415 flood victims from 113 families are being accommodated at two temporary relief centres and one permanent relief centre in Sabah. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted the government's focus on protecting lives, safeguarding the welfare of affected families, and expediting the restoration of essential facilities in the flood-hit areas. In his Facebook post, he also urged residents in Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, and Labuan, who are currently under a thunderstorm warning by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, to stay vigilant and monitor weather updates. Ahmad Zahid, who chairs the National Disaster Management Committee, warned of the potential for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds occurring with high intensity over a short period and advised prioritising safety and adhering to authorities' instructions.
