Anwar Calls for Prayers to Combat Haze as National Celebrations Near

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to pray that the haze situation will be brought under control ahead of the National Day celebration on August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16. He emphasized that preparations involving the government machinery are currently being intensified for these two significant national events.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar made this appeal during the launch of Telekom Malaysia Bhd's 80th anniversary celebrations. He expressed hope that the haze, which has been affecting several areas in the country, would become more manageable to ensure the celebrations could proceed as planned. Key figures such as Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar were also in attendance.

Fahmi, speaking at his weekly press conference, noted that Shamsul Azri would announce any changes to the 2026 National Day celebration if necessary due to the haze. He stated that the government is considering options such as altering the scale or location of the celebration but has no intentions of canceling the National Day event scheduled for August 31.
