Baku:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need for Malaysia to have leaders who possess vision and genuinely care about the struggles of the people, especially those from low-income groups and contributors to the country's development.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that leaders must be aware of the challenges faced by various segments of society, including padi farmers, taxi drivers, and fishermen. He also stressed the importance of addressing issues such as children's schooling needs, the welfare of university students, and the financial sufficiency of lower-paid civil servants.
Anwar made these remarks during a presentation of special financial assistance to taxi and rental car drivers. He was accompanied by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
He underscored the value of contributions from all societal groups and asserted that the government should not overlook any profession. Anwar noted the role taxi drivers play in supporting the economy and tourism, and stated that the 2027 Budget aims to acknowledge the people's contributions.
Anwar further stated that while action should be taken against those who commit offences, the majority of taxi drivers earn an honest living and deserve government support. He affirmed the MADANI Government's commitment to recognizing the rights and contributions of all societal segments, including lower-income workers.
The government plans to alleviate financial burdens through various assistance programs, such as increasing the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA). Anwar also reflected on his own experiences during the Reformasi movement in 1998, when taxi drivers supported him, emphasizing his gratitude and commitment to supporting them now.
The event marked the first handover ceremony, benefiting 500 taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers from the Central Zone.
