Kuala Lumpur:Integrity must manifest in everyday actions, such as rejecting bribes, adhering to regulations, and having the courage to report misconduct, to ensure society collectively takes responsibility in combating corruption.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman emphasized that fostering a culture free from corruption begins with honest decisions and firm personal convictions, supported by continual commitment from all parties involved.
He articulated these points during the launch of the 'Program Langkah Merdeka 118, Bersama Perangi Rasuah,' organized in conjunction with the MACC's 59th-anniversary celebration at Stadium Merdeka. The event was held in collaboration with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Merdeka Ventures. Azmi highlighted that the corruption-free pledge by PNB Merdeka Ventures should be more than just a formal declaration; it must serve as the foundation for maintaining a clean, transparent, and ethical work environment, thereby preserving public trust.
Kuala Lumpur MACC Director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib noted that the symbolic act of raising the MACC flag atop Merdeka 118, Malaysia's tallest building and the world's second tallest, represented the commission's resolve to advance the anti-corruption agenda and uphold integrity without compromise.
The event also included a tower run with participants from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia, and MACC officers. Lance Corporal Muhamad Khairul Izwan Mazli from the Cheras District Police Headquarters won the run with a time of 32 minutes and 29 seconds, followed by Wan Norrazif Mohameed from the Kuala Lumpur MACC office and Mohd Hanief Afiq Rosnei from the Negeri Sembilan MACC office.
An integrity exhibition featured nearly 20 ministries and agencies from both government and private sectors, including the Health Ministry, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Malaysian Institute of Integrity, National Anti-Drugs Agency, and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. Various services were offered, such as health and dental screenings, account checks with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), as well as Rahmah Sales, book sales, and jewellery sales.
