Anwar Ibrahim Meets China’s Premier Li Qiang at G20 Summit

Sandton: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and China's Premier Li Qiang had a brief encounter at the Sandton Convention Centre, the venue for the ongoing G20 Leaders Summit. Both leaders are participating in the summit, with China attending as a G20 member and Anwar joining as a guest of the G20 Presidency under South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar's invitation to the summit, running from November 22 to 23, was extended due to Malaysia's role as the ASEAN Chair for 2025. During their brief meeting, Anwar and Li engaged in a cordial conversation before proceeding to their respective engagements.

The G20 comprises members including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Trkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, the African Union, and the European Union.

Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia's Finance Minister, is accompanied by key officials, including Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Zaliha Mustafa, Malaysian government officials, and a business delegation. Anwar arrived in Sandton on Thursday as part of a four-day working visit, marking the second stop in his three-nation tour of the African continent.
