Melaka: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today highlighted the successful implementation of various reforms under his leadership, emphasizing that while additional changes are on the agenda, they will require time and a phased approach to achieve.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as the president of PKR, asserted that the achievements of the reform agenda should not be overlooked simply because there are ongoing calls for more changes. In his presidential policy speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre, Anwar stated, "I hope friends who are demanding change, please do so... but accept the fact that change has already taken place. We can list how much has been done."

Anwar elaborated on the courage behind the MADANI reforms, highlighting that over the previous 60 years, necessary actions were left unaddressed. He acknowledged that while criticism and demands are part of the process, it is crucial to recognize the progress that has been made. The event was attended by PKR and MADANI Government leaders, including PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar, Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

In his additional role as Finance Minister, Anwar outlined several reforms that have been implemented, such as amendments to the Audit Act 1957, the Parliamentary Service Act, and the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act 2023. He also mentioned the creation of the Special Task Force on Agency Reform and the enactment of the Consumer Credit Act and legislation concerning gig workers. These accomplishments, he noted, demonstrate that changes long overdue have begun to materialize within his three-year tenure.

Nevertheless, Anwar conceded that implementing reforms is a challenging task and not all efforts by the government have been flawless. As Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, he reiterated his commitment to championing the reform agenda, which is central to PH's objectives. However, he pointed out that forming the Unity Government after the 2022 General Election necessitated negotiations with other coalition parties.

Anwar explained that as the leading party in the government, PH must consider the positions and interests of its coalition partners to effectively implement the reform agenda. He emphasized that the reform approach must also consider the existing political and administrative environment, ensuring that changes are grounded and implemented gradually.

He addressed assumptions that all changes could occur simultaneously, cautioning against hasty actions. "Some assumed at the time that we could change everything all at once. (But) we know that change must take root and be carried out in stages. This is not an excuse to avoid it. We are also learning, and I have always reminded (everyone), do not rush, as I have said in several Keadilan conferences and congresses," Anwar remarked.

The Prime Minister assured that the government would continue to fortify the reform agenda based on its capabilities and the prevailing circumstances, with the goal of ensuring that the changes benefit the populace and strengthen the nation's institutions.
