Kuala lumpur: The 2026 PKR National Congress should serve as a platform to close ranks, strengthen the party and regain the people's trust, said the Prime Minister's senior political adviser, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz. Tengku Zafrul, an ex-officio member of the PKR Political Bureau, urged all members to assess weaknesses, strengthen the organisation and ensure the party machinery operates more effectively, from the grassroots to the central leadership.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul emphasized the need for honest self-reflection following the recent state elections. He acknowledged disappointment with partners in the Unity Government but stressed the importance of focusing on internal improvements. 'If the people have yet to see the results of what we have worked for, it is also our responsibility to communicate more clearly and effectively,' he said in a Facebook post.
At the same time, he urged party members to listen to the people's grievances with an open heart and not become so engrossed in responding that they fail to understand the actual issues. 'Listen, acknowledge what remains unresolved, then deliver,' he stated.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul highlighted to reporters at the congress the need to improve communication and the dissemination of government policies, especially on economic matters. He noted that feedback had indicated a lack of clear and sufficient information provided to the public. 'We saw during the recent state elections in Negeri Sembilan and Johor that many people said they had not heard about, or had not received, some of the assistance that had been announced. So, I think there is room for improvement in terms of our communication,' he remarked.
He also addressed public concerns that macroeconomic improvements were not being felt widely. Despite positive indicators like economic growth, inflation, unemployment rates, and the strength of the ringgit, he acknowledged that these gains were not experienced by everyone. 'I have also made several suggestions (to the party leadership) on how we can ensure that our economic progress is felt by everyone,' he concluded.
