Selangor: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will meet DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke soon to hear his views before deciding on Loke's offer to resign as Transport Minister. Anwar said Loke had personally informed him of the matter, adding that he understood the decision was made following the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke offered to step down as Transport Minister in line with DAP's stance regarding the conditional pardon for Najib. He mentioned that the official resignation letter would be submitted to Anwar in the near future. Anwar emphasized that he needs to hear Loke's views to understand his perspective as Loke is known for his consistent opposition to any perception of leniency on corruption.

Anwar highlighted that the meeting with Loke would likely take place after both return from their respective visits to Shanghai, China. Anwar is scheduled to head to Melaka before embarking to Shanghai for discussions with Premier Li Qiang.

The recent development stems from a conditional pardon granted to Najib by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to a fine and other conditions. This decision was made during the 64th Pardons Board meeting for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara. Anwar indicated that any potential Cabinet reshuffle would be considered gradually, underscoring the importance of careful deliberation in the matter.
