ASEAN Nations Urged to Collaborate for a Sustainable Tourism Future: Onn Hafiz

Johor Bahru: ASEAN member countries need to continue working together to shape a future where the region's stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant communities captivate and inspire travelers from around the world, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said. These collaborative efforts would reflect the spirit of cooperation and a shared vision that defined ASEAN, he added.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Onn Hafiz emphasized that ASEAN could shape a tourism industry that thrives on inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability. During his speech at the opening of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 at Persada Johor International Convention Centre, he invited attendees to experience Johor's wonders and engage in meaningful dialogue to further the goals of ASEAN Tourism. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Onn Hafiz expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for entrusting Johor with hosting the prestigious ATF. He highlighted the forum's theme, "Unity in Motion: Shaping ASEAN's Tourism Tomorrow," which carries a message of hope, innovation, and sustainability. He stated that it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to pioneer new strategies that promote tourism while preserving the natural environment, safeguarding cultural heritage, and uplifting communities. This aligns with Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme of "Inclusivity and Sustainability."

He welcomed ASEAN delegates to Johor, describing it as a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural wonders. With six national parks, pristine sandy beaches, and the enchanting islands of Mersing, Johor is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Johor represents a vibrant melting pot of Malay, Chinese, Indian, indigenous, and other traditions, each contributing to the state's rich heritage.

Inviting delegates to experience local cuisine, Onn Hafiz recommended signature dishes like Laksa Johor, Mee Bandung Muar, Asam Pedas, and Kacang Pool, promising that the flavors of Johor would linger in their hearts long after their visit.
