Kuala Lumpur: Bank Rakyat is increasing its allocation for the Bank Rakyat Indian Entrepreneur Financing-i (BRIEF-i) programme by an additional RM50 million, which raises the total funding to RM100 million. This decision follows the positive response to the initiative.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri R. Ramanan highlighted that this move demonstrates Bank Rakyat's dedication, under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), to support and empower local entrepreneurs, particularly within the Indian business community.
He noted, "This also proves the continued commitment of the MADANI Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to empower the socio-economic development of the Indian community." He expressed hope that this effort would continue to strengthen, enabling more entrepreneurs to grow and contribute to the country's economic progress.
Since its launch in June 2024, the BRIEF-i programme has facilitated financing of RM49 million to 512 entrepreneurs nationwide. Ramanan pointed out that approved applicants could also access halal consultancy services from Bank Rakyat, which would aid in the process of applying for a halal certificate from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
The initiative aims to assist more entrepreneurs in expanding their market through halal certification, thereby supporting the growth of Malaysia's halal economy. Ramanan clarified, "We are not forcing anyone to obtain a halal certificate, but this can be an advantage for them and their businesses."
