Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of National Unity and the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) (Religious Affairs) are collaborating with authorities to investigate and take action against individuals involved in spreading religions other than Islam to Muslims in Kuala Lumpur.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar issued a joint statement. They asserted that such activities are in violation of Article 11 of the Federal Constitution and are condemned by the Interfaith Harmony Committee (JK HARMONI).
The ministers expressed concerns that these activities could endanger public security and disturb the harmony and unity among Malaysia's communities. They highlighted Malaysia's reputation for cultural and religious diversity, which emphasizes mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of halting activities that threaten public order and social harmony. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to prevent these actions from spreading.
Aaron Ago Dagang mentioned that his ministry, through the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), will bolster monitoring efforts by Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) members, particularly in the Klang Valley. This initiative aims to enhance community security and harmony, aligning with the SRS's objective to support authorities in maintaining public order.
Mohd Na'im Mokhtar reiterated JAKIM's commitment to guiding Muslims on safeguarding their faith, aligning with MADANI Malaysia's principles of respect, compassion, and collective well-being.
The ministers called on all parties to uphold harmony and respect the cultural and religious values foundational to Malaysia's diverse society. They expressed hope that such incidents would not recur and emphasized the need for firm action to preserve national unity.
The issue arose following a viral video showing two foreigners visiting homes in the Wangsa Maju People's Housing Project (PPR) area in an attempt to proselytize to Muslims, causing unease among residents. In response, JAKIM urged anyone with information to report it to the police to facilitate accountability and deter similar activities in the future.
