Kuala lumpur: Batik Air is set to enhance its flight service between Bintulu and Kuala Lumpur by introducing two daily flights starting July 20, as announced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. This development aims to provide passengers with more flexible and convenient travel options.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision for an additional daily flight follows ongoing discussions and coordination with the airline to tackle public concerns about airfare prices and the availability of flights. Minister Tiong highlighted that there had been public feedback concerning a recent reduction of flights and increasing airfares. Initially, he advocated for two additional flights, but negotiations led to the implementation of one fixed additional flight, with considerations for capacity and time slots.
The updated schedule will see flights from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu departing at 10 am and 2.30 pm daily, while flights from Bintulu to Kuala Lumpur will depart at 1.10 pm and 5.40 pm. Minister Tiong noted that the economic growth in Bintulu has led to increased travel demand for business, education, medical, and tourism purposes. The concerns from various community sectors regarding sufficient flights and reasonable airfares were communicated to the airline.
Minister Tiong also emphasized the importance of maintaining stable flight operations and urged the airline to avoid frequent cancellations or last-minute schedule changes. He suggested that the airline keep airfares as reasonable as market conditions allow to alleviate the economic burden on travelers and prevent long-term high ticket prices.
He expressed confidence that stabilizing ticket prices would contribute to increasing passenger traffic, benefiting both the airline and its passengers. Minister Tiong stressed the necessity of collaboration between the government, airlines, and relevant authorities to improve aviation services and meet public demands for more flight options and affordable fares.
The increase in flight frequency is expected to address the current shortage and facilitate travel for Bintulu residents to and from Peninsular Malaysia and other domestic regions, catering to the growing travel demand.
