Kuala lumpur: Internet connectivity disruptions in Kampung Sungai Balang Darat and surrounding areas here are expected to be resolved by the third quarter of this year with the construction of a 45-metre telecommunications tower. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the ministry had identified the need for the digital infrastructure project and had been working with CelcomDigi on its implementation since the end of last year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the tower will be equipped with Multi Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology, allowing all major telecommunications providers to share the network and ensuring comprehensive coverage. Fahmi assured that all telcos could use the tower once it becomes operational, addressing internet connectivity issues in several critical locations in Sungai Balang immediately.
Fahmi made these remarks at the Jiwa@Komuniti MADANI Sembang Santai World Cup Edition programme at Pasar Awam Parit Jawa today, where he also joined members of the public for breakfast while watching the live broadcast of the football match between Jordan and Argentina. He mentioned that the earlier settlement process involved technical procedures, including land purchase and acquisition for the tower site.
Additionally, Fahmi stated that his ministry, through the Information Department, would continue the Ziarah Kasih MADANI programme to engage with grassroots communities and resolve issues affecting them. When questioned about cyber misconduct monitoring during the Johor state election, he mentioned that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working round the clock to curb the spread of fake news and sensitive content involving race, religion, and royalty (3R) issues.
Fahmi advised that any public observations of election law violations should be reported to the Election Commission (EC), and proper action will be taken, especially in cases involving candidates. He encouraged reporting any 3R content on Facebook to Facebook itself, and if there is no response, to report the matter to the MCMC for follow-up action. The Johor state election is scheduled for July 11, with early voting on July 7.
