Kuala lumpur: Batik Air has announced new direct services to Shanghai, China, and Sydney, Australia, beginning June and July this year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the airline stated that the expansion reflects the company's ongoing commitment to supporting sustained travel demand and reinforcing connectivity as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026. The Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai service will commence on June 23, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Batik Air's network expansion into China, complementing existing services to Changsha, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou.
The route will be operated by Boeing 737 aircraft, with an all-in-one fare starting from RM399 for economy class and RM1,679 for business class, enhancing connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and one of the Asia-Pacific region's key economic and tourism centers. Batik Air is also strengthening its presence in Australia with a direct Kuala Lumpur-Sydney service, starting on July 1, 2026, operated by Airbus A330 aircraft for enhanced capacity and comfort on long-haul travel.
Currently, the airline serves Australia through Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney via Denpasar, along with 14 weekly direct Kuala Lumpur-Perth flights. The new non-stop Sydney service will operate seven times weekly, with fares starting from RM749 for economy class and RM4,069 for business class, complementing existing operations and further strengthening connectivity within one of the airline's key international markets.
Batik Air's chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy emphasized that the airline continues to align its network with sustained market demand. The additions of Shanghai and Sydney strengthen two of its most important international corridors, as China and Australia remain vital markets for facilitating greater movement of travelers while reinforcing economic and people-to-people ties.
