Melaka: Badan Amal Warga Asnaf (BAWA) Malaysia has carried out nearly 50 aid and welfare programmes nationwide in the first three months this year to support those in need.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, BAWA's president, Datuk Amilludin Latip, announced that 17 of these programmes were conducted in Melaka, including the Jelajah Ramadan 2025 Programme. The initiative aims to ensure that the asnaf community, or tithe recipients, is not overlooked during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Amilludin, who also serves as the president of Melaka BAWA, stated that the assistance provided by BAWA includes a range of services, such as cleaning homes for the underprivileged to enhance their comfort, rather than focusing solely on food donations.
He highlighted that BAWA has been established in Melaka, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and the Federal Territories. Melaka stands out as one of the most active states in organizing aid missions and donation programmes for the needy.
Currently, there are no plans to expand BAWA to other states due to financial constraints, as the organization does not receive assistance from specific parties or government grants. Instead, their charity programmes rely entirely on public contributions, Amilludin explained to Bernama after the Jelajah Ramadan 2025 Programme.
During the event, 70 recipients were provided with food baskets containing essential items and cash assistance, which were presented by Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.
