Kuala Lumpur: The government has assured that there will be enough supply of essential goods across the nation as the Aidilfitri celebration approaches next week. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu stated that while some reports of supply shortages have been received, these cases are minimal.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu mentioned that there are minor shortages in a few areas, but the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is prepared to take quick action to address these issues. He emphasized that complaints about supply shortages are rare and that essential goods are reaching consumers effectively. This was disclosed at the national-level Semarak Syawal 1446H Programme launch at Pasar Tani Taman Sri Andalas.
Mohamad further expressed gratitude to all involved parties for their support in maintaining stable and relatively low prices for goods this year. He highlighted that, as per Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, this is the first time since 1982 that prices have decreased instead of increased ahead of Hari Raya. He credited farmers and poultry producers for their cooperation, which has been instrumental in achieving this outcome.
Mohamad also shared that the Semarak Syawal 1446H Programme has recorded total sales of RM16 million as of today. This programme, which started on March 22 and concludes tomorrow, is being conducted at 262 locations nationwide. Special sales are being held at 42 selected locations, offering discounts of up to 30 percent for the Bakul MADANI Raya package and up to 20 percent for processed chicken.
FAMA's commitment to providing quality products at reasonable prices continues, with a focus on strengthening farmers' markets as a crucial platform for farmers and local entrepreneurs. This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to enhance food security and public well-being. Festive essentials such as ketupat, coconut milk, daun palas, chicken and beef, along with various traditional cookies, are being offered at affordable prices through the programme.
The initiative features participation from local entrepreneurs, private entities, and government agencies, offering MADANI Combo packages, Happy Hour sales, and special discounts on chicken and coconut milk.
