Kuala lumpur: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has commended the Malaysian National News Agency's (Bernama) infographics for their role in aiding public comprehension of complex and serious issues. In an era where social media is dominated by short videos and audiences are less inclined to engage with lengthy reports, the work of the infographic team is particularly crucial.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hannah expressed her appreciation for Bernama's infographics, stating they consistently make it easier for the public to grasp real issues. She noted the fast-paced nature of information today, emphasizing that no one wants to read long reports. Her remarks came during the Nur Ramadan programme with the media, attended by notable figures including Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud, Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain, and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Hannah highlighted the media's ability to translate serious issues into simple visual forms, ensuring that government messages effectively reach the public. She stressed that in a mature democracy, the relationship between the government and the media does not always have to be 'comfortable', advocating for a system where questioning policies and criticising government reports is part of healthy checks and balances.
She remarked that a good government does not fear questions, and a good media does not stop asking. The role of media partners extends beyond delivering news, aiding in the public's understanding of their surroundings. Furthermore, Hannah underscored ongoing initiatives to strengthen urban community welfare in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, while acknowledging that policies are ineffective if not understood or felt by the public.
Hannah called on ministry officers, including those at Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Department, to engage more openly with the media to highlight government initiatives.
