Bandar sunway: Sunway Medical Centre (SMC), Bandar Sunway, together with the Shah Alam community, is fostering the spirit of Ramadan in a healthier and more meaningful way through the 'Manisnya Ramadan Bersama SunMed' programme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative, led by SMC's chief executive officer, Dr Seow Vei Ken, is more than just a distribution of bubur lambuk to the local community. It serves as a platform to promote awareness about the importance of maintaining good health during the fasting month. Dr Seow emphasized the connection between good health and a harmonious community, expressing the hospital's desire to celebrate Ramadan healthily and meaningfully with the Shah Alam community.
Dr Seow highlighted that the programme includes a bubur lambuk cooking activity, health screenings, and a communal breaking of fast, underscoring the hospital's commitment to extending its role beyond clinical treatment to encompass community outreach through health education and awareness.
SMC Assistant Medical Director and Emergency Physician Dr Nur Elayni Borhan noted that various health screening initiatives were introduced during the programme to facilitate free basic health checks for the public. This effort aligns with SMC's goal to promote healthier lifestyles during Ramadan, viewing the fasting month as more than just abstaining from food and drink.
Dr Nur Elayni encouraged the Shah Alam community to take advantage of the health checks offered at the mosque, mentioning comprehensive screenings to help the community better understand their health status. Alongside health screenings, SMC conducted a CPR training session focused on hands-only CPR, led by SMC Emergency Physician Dr Mohd Khalis Abdul Rahim.
Dr Nur Elayni emphasized the importance of exposure to basic life-saving skills, preparing the public to respond to emergencies. Such initiatives aim to ensure Ramadan celebrations are not only spiritually meaningful but also contribute to strengthening community health and safety awareness.
