Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian National News Agency, Bernama, is set to manage the International Media Centre (IMC) and International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, enhancing its reputation in coordinating international events.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bernama's chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, expressed confidence in their ability to manage these significant responsibilities efficiently. She highlighted that Bernama's previous experiences in managing media centres for international events have laid the groundwork for this assurance.
"Alhamdulillah, once again Bernama has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the IMC by the Foreign Ministry. I have full confidence in the Bernama team, as we have had experience handling several IMCs before, and, insya-Allah, we will fulfil this responsibility to the best of our ability and ensure smooth operations," she stated.
Nur-ul Afida added that Bernama has deployed a substantial team to ensure comprehensive coverage and management throughout the summit, aligning with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, themed Inclusivity and Sustainability.
Since the start of the year, Bernama has been appointed by various ministries to manage media centres for several significant events, including the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat in Langkawi and upcoming ASEAN Economic and Defence Ministers' meetings.
"This trust reflects Bernama's capability to continue playing an important role in coordinating international media coverage," she noted.
Earlier, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil reported that 2,854 media personnel from 290 agencies, both domestic and international, have registered to cover the event. This group includes 648 Malaysian official media representatives, alongside 327 local and 1,277 international media personnel.
The 47th ASEAN Summit, slated for October 26 to 28, will see participation from top leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states and key dialogue partners, including the United States, China, Japan, and India.
