Kuala lumpur: UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) will unveil the 'Blue Malaysia Agenda' to chart the country's path towards 100 years of independence should the coalition return to Putrajaya, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The UMNO president stated that the agenda transcends a mere 'blue wave', capturing aspirations to develop a sovereign, united, and innovative Malaysia that achieves high-income status, with prosperity shared equitably and the nation respected globally.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who is also BN chairman, articulated these goals during his Presidential Policy Speech at the 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. Present at the assembly were UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; vice-presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani; and secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The Deputy Prime Minister outlined that the 'Blue Malaysia Agenda' would consist of eight key initiatives, including transforming Malaysia into a creator nation. Ahmad Zahid emphasized the ambition for global recognition of technology created by Malaysians and support for Malaysian brands, transitioning from goods 'Made in Malaysia' to 'Made by Malaysia'. The country aims to establish high-tech companies and global-standard industries that are created, designed, and owned by Malaysians.
Further, UMNO, BN, and their political allies aspire to evolve Malaysia into a 'Skills Nation' by mainstreaming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Ahmad Zahid highlighted the need for children from polytechnics, GIATMARA, MARA TVET programmes, MARA Skills Institutes, professional Huffaz, and pondok schools to collaborate in shaping this vision. The goal is for 80 per cent of the workforce to be highly skilled and earn premium wages.
Ahmad Zahid also discussed the objective of building a prosperous Malaysia by redefining economic success, targeting that each family retains at least 30 per cent of its income as disposable after meeting basic needs. This would enable families to save, invest, and enjoy life. The coalition plans to realign national priorities by restructuring the taxation system, including reasonable rates for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), streamlining social security, facilitating business operations, and developing regional economies based on the strengths of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
He also emphasized renewing the commitment to civil servants, safeguarding teachers' welfare, integrating Islamic muamalah into the mainstream, and ensuring the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) is executed as a comprehensive government initiative. The 2026 UMNO General Assembly, attended by 3,016 delegates, is being held from September 9 to 12.
