Breach Of Regulations By Police In Zara Qairina’s Death: Investigation Officers, Supervisors To Face Disciplinary Action – IGP

Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will take disciplinary action against investigating officers and their supervisors if investigations reveal any breach of regulation in the case involving the death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that an internal probe has been launched by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS), with a special team established specifically for this case. The investigation is examining all aspects in accordance with the law and standard operating procedures. Should violations be discovered, appropriate actions will be taken against the officers involved.

The Inspector-General mentioned that certain actions require review from a disciplinary perspective, and he has instructed the JIPS Director to implement necessary measures based on the level of non-compliance identified. This announcement came during a press conference held earlier today.

Reports had previously indicated that the investigating officer's failure to request a post-mortem at the initial stage was the main cause of the standard operating procedure non-compliance in this case. Zara Qairina, a Form 1 student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha in Limauan, Sabah, was found unconscious near the school's dormitory drain at 4 am on July 16 and passed away a day later at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu.
