Budget 2026: Gov’t To Strengthen Unity, National Identity Through Sports And Community Initiatives

Kuala lumpur: The government has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving national unity as the cornerstone of nation-building, with new initiatives aimed at promoting harmony, national identity, and a strong sense of community. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysians must be able to live without fear or insecurity, highlighting the importance of swiftly extinguishing sparks of hatred that could disrupt social harmony.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar announced the introduction of two new modules, *Philosophy and Contemporary Challenges* and *Aspirations of a Nation*, which will be compulsory at higher education institutions starting in 2026. These modules aim to strengthen traditions, arts, civility, and national unity, forming the foundation of a civilised nation. An allocation of RM55 million has been designated for various unity and nation-building programmes, such as *Unity Week*, *Harmoni MADANI*, and *Citra Nusa Museum*, that include overnight museum activities to engage the youth.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, revealed plans for the construction of three new Unity Activity Centres, with an investment of RM46 million. These centres will be located in Bukit Besar Unity Complex in Kuala Terengganu, and in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak, and Miri, Sarawak. The government has also earmarked a matching grant of RM30 million to support community sports events organized by associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as a means to foster patriotism and togetherness.

Additionally, the allocation of RM55 million will be directed towards enhancing the role of *Rukun Tetangga MADANI* as a community bridge, encouraging family-oriented activities within Malaysia's multi-ethnic society. The spirit of volunteerism will be further supported through the *Jiwa Murni MADANI* programme, which will receive increased funding of RM20 million. This decision follows the active participation of army personnel in community assistance, exemplified by the construction of the Compact Bailey 100 Bridge in Kampung Air Punggai, Alor Gajah, Melaka.
