Kuala lumpur: The Aspire Academy Global Summit 2025 made its historic United States (US) debut at Subaru Park, gathering global football leaders, coaches, and legends for two days of high-level dialogue and innovation in player and coach development.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this 11th edition was hosted in partnership with Philadelphia Union and Major League Soccer (MLS), marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the 'Aspire in the World Fellows' initiative, which now connects over 50 top clubs, leagues, and federations worldwide. Star speakers included former England National Team Manager Sir Gareth Southgate, who highlighted coach development as the foundation of football's future, and former Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez, who conducted a masterclass on tactical evolution and performance management.
MLS Coach of the Year 2024 Wilfried Nancy and Italian legend and FIFA World Cup winner Alessandro Nesta provided insights on balancing structure, resilience, and psychology in contemporary coaching practices. Two-time FIFA Women's World Cup winner Carli Lloyd led a session focused on elite performance in women's football, emphasizing the increasing prominence and professional advancement of the women's game. Her guiding principle: 'Preparation is everything.'
A notable cross-sport dialogue was presented by NFL legend Ron Jaworski, who stressed leadership as a universal constant across all sports, irrespective of system or technology. MLS Commissioner Don Garber encapsulated the essence of the summit, stating that such events connect ideas, people, and purpose.
Workshops and roundtables delved into emerging trends in sports technology, athlete recovery, calendar management, and innovation, featuring contributions from clubs such as Juventus, AC Milan, and MLS. Aspire Academy also introduced Blind/Off, a new real-time e-gym feedback system set to launch on mobile platforms.
Concluding the event, Aspire Academy Director of Football Performance and Science, Valter Di Salvo, announced the academy's inaugural Workshop Tour in Europe, beginning in Bucharest, Romania, next year, with the planning for the 12th Global Summit already underway.
