Putrajaya: The government has agreed to restore the basic monthly quota under the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme to 300 litres. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this decision, noting its impact on over 16 million users of subsidised RON95.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that more than half a million eligible owners of diesel-powered pick-up trucks and jeeps would also benefit, receiving up to 400 litres of Budi Diesel monthly. This announcement was made during his National Day address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

On March 26, the government had decided to adjust the BUDI95 quota from 300 litres to 200 litres monthly, effective from April 1, 2026, due to the conflict in West Asia. However, the price of subsidised RON95 was maintained at RM1.99 per litre. The Finance Minister specified that the new measures would take effect on Sept 1, aiming to alleviate the people's cost-of-living burden.

The Prime Minister acknowledged concerns about the M40 group and emphasized the government's commitment to supporting all societal segments under the MADANI Government. He mentioned that petrol and diesel subsidies benefit nearly all societal segments, including M40 and T20, with the government incurring costs up to RM40 billion.

Anwar explained the decision to increase the BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel quotas was driven by the urgency of rising living costs, which required immediate action rather than waiting for the Budget 2027. He stressed the necessity for businesses to grow without delay.

The Prime Minister also recognized that prior measures were insufficient to fully alleviate the people's hardship due to rising living costs, indicating that further actions are needed. He emphasized that the benefits of the country's economic growth should be shared with the people.
