Kuala lumpur: Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today, with significant selling across the board, as regional markets showed softer movements amid a lack of fresh catalysts. At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) decreased by 11.70 points, or 0.72 percent, to 1,605.76 from the previous close of 1,617.46. The index opened slightly lower at 1,616.75 and fluctuated between 1,605.13 and 1,617.26 during the session.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the broader market was negative, with 710 decliners outnumbering 283 gainers. Additionally, 471 counters remained unchanged, while 1,262 were untraded, and 48 were suspended. The turnover reached 2.64 billion units, valued at RM1.45 billion.
Among the heavyweight stocks, Maybank remained steady at RM9.98, while Public Bank fell by two sen to RM4.33. CIMB added one sen to RM7.49, Tenaga Nasional lost 10 sen to RM13.18, and IHH Healthcare rose by three sen to RM8.26. On the most active list, Foodie Media increased by 12 sen to 42 sen, Eastern and Oriental decreased by 6.5 sen to 69.5 sen, Tanco gained two sen to RM1.13, TWL remained flat at 2.5 sen, and Perak Transit eased by one sen to 26.5 sen.
Top gainers included BLD Plantation, which increased by 60 sen to RM15.50, Allianz adding 28 sen to RM18.96, Hong Leong Industries gaining 16 sen to RM15.20, DKSH adding 15 sen to RM5.20, and IOI Properties edging up 14 sen to RM2.57. Among the top losers, Nestle dropped RM1.60 to RM107.40, MPI shed 68 sen to RM32.32, United Plantations decreased by 42 sen to RM28.20, while YTL Power and PPB both decreased by 28 sen to RM3.28 and RM11.02, respectively.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index decreased by 86.48 points to 11,934.18, the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell by 95.69 points to 11,905.54, and the FBMT 100 Index went down by 83.07 points to 11,718.62. The FBM Mid 70 Index dropped by 109.90 points to 16,917.54, and the FBM ACE Index slipped by 41.22 points to 4,815.44.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index trimmed 24.91 points to 18,532.78, the Plantation Index decreased by 48.67 points to 8,081.57, the Industrial Products and Services Index eased by 0.25 of a point to 164.22, and the Energy Index shed 3.48 points to 752.45.
