Chengdu Hosts Digital Light and Shadow Art Festival Featuring Global Artworks

Chengdu:The 2026 Chengdu International Digital Light and Shadow Art Festival commenced on September 29 at Eastern Suburb Memory and will continue throughout China's National Day holiday. The festival presents 36 digital artworks from various countries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event, organized by Chengdu Dongfang Zhenghuo Culture Media Co Ltd, employs a dual-track model that includes both indoor immersive exhibitions and outdoor public light displays. The festival showcases architectural projections, interactive installations, and digital performances.

Chengdu has recently emerged as a central hub for China's digital cultural and creative industries, with numerous local intellectual properties expanding into international markets. Animated features like "Ne Zha 2" and "All Wishes Come True," produced by Chengdu companies, have been released in foreign cinemas and praised for their production quality and unique Eastern cultural elements.

In August, "All Wishes Come True" premiered in over 110 cinemas across Malaysia, with more than 600 screenings daily. Meanwhile, "Ne Zha 2" dominated Singapore's box office for three consecutive weeks and led Malaysia's box office for two weeks.

Chengdu's appeal extends beyond its digital culture, attracting global tourists with World Heritage sites, Sichuan cuisine, and year-round ice and snow sports. The "China Ice and Snow Economic Vitality Report (2024-2025 Snow Season)" ranks Chengdu ninth nationwide for its ice and snow economy, with over 60 winter sports venues.

The '2024-2025 China Ski Industry White Paper' highlights Chengdu Sunac Snow Park in Dujiangyan as the fourth largest indoor ski resort globally by snow area, covering 55,000 square meters. It operates year-round, complementing visits to nearby World Heritage sites such as Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng.

To accommodate the expected rise in tourist arrivals, Chengdu is enhancing inbound facilitation services, including mutual visa exemptions with Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. The city's 240-hour visa-free transit policy at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is expected to bolster inbound travel. Chengdu ports are projected to handle 144,000 inbound and outbound travelers, averaging around 18,000 daily, with dedicated services for international visitors.
