Shenzhen: Professional mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing's aspirations for their first World Tour title were thwarted as they succumbed 19-21, 16-21 to world No. 1 and local favorites Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping in the final of the 2026 China Masters Badminton Championships held in Shenzhen today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, during the Super 750 tournament in Shenzhen Arena, Pang Ron-Pei Jing delivered a valiant effort, particularly towards the end of the first game, saving three game points against Yan Zhe-Dong Ping before narrowly losing 19-21. In the second game, the unseeded Malaysians matched points with the 2026 World Championships runners-up until 5-5 before gradually losing momentum and trailing 8-14.

The pivotal moment came when a wayward smash from Pang Ron granted the Chinese pair the decisive point, sealing a 21-16 victory in 50 minutes, marking their second China Masters title following their first win in the 2024 edition. Despite the loss, Pang Ron-Pei Jing collected USD43,750 (RM176,946) as runners-up, while the champions took home USD92,500 (RM374,116).

This performance stands as Pang Ron-Pei Jing's most significant achievement in a World Tour event since teaming up at the 2026 Malaysia Masters in May. Reflecting on the match, Pang Ron acknowledged his ongoing adaptation to the pressures of high-stakes competition, noting that the experience of competing helped him acclimate to the environment. 'I feel not the best yet, but maybe a little bit too nervous. But playing for some points already, then we get used to the environment and everything. So it's getting better and better,' he stated in an audio clip shared with the media by the Badminton World Federation.

Pei Jing expressed satisfaction with their overall performance and emphasized that the pair would now concentrate on enhancing their partnership and gradually discovering a combination that complements both players.
